Sancta Sophia

This House is named after one of the former Colleges from which Penola Catholic College was born.

SANCTA SOPHIASancta Sophia College was established as a Catholic secondary girls' school in 1967 under the administration of the Sisters of Charity.

The school closed in 1994 to become the new Glenroy Campus of Penola Catholic College in 1995.

The College was dedicated to the Holy Spirit under the title "Sancta Sophia" meaning Holy Wisdom.

In the wisdom literature of the Hebrew Scriptures reference, wisdom is referred to as a 'she'.

In the Hebrew Scriptures wisdom is also associated with guidance, but there is a wonderful addition, Wisdom becomes alive and becomes a person, a 'she'.

This feminine wisdom is presented as one who not only gives us direction for our lives but also is intimately bonded with God.

She is breath of the Divine born before creation.

She is given to humankind to connect them with the Divine.

Sancta Sophia is represented by the swan, a symbol of balance and transformation, it inspires it's members to adapt to challenges as they present themselves.

The Sisters of Charity, like the swan were examples of how grace and teamwork can make a dream a reality.

Sancta Sophia Theme Song

To the tune of ‘We will rock you’ by Queen

Buddy you’re a fast man,
Slow girl, old man
all we want to do, is to win this race
We got red on our face
With S in place
Kicking their butts to get in first place

We will we will rock you!
We will we will rock you!

Buddy, we all work hard
Train hard, play hard
We do all this to get gold on our name
We got red on our face
With S in place
Waving Sancta flags all over the place

We will we will rock you!
We will we will rock you!

We got red on our face
With S in place
You better step back
because we’re comin’ first place
