LANGUAGES @ GLENROY

Ciao a tutti!

On Friday 24th June, Year 7’s studying Italian and the Year 8 Accelerated Italian class participated in the Swinburne Italian Poetry Competition. For many, many weeks they painstakingly practised their pronunciation, worked so hard on trying to include intonation and of course, memorised their chosen poem. Overcoming nerves was also a big hurdle on the day but the results are finally in!

25 students will receive a Certificato di Lode (Honourable Mention), 28 students will receive a Certificato di Merito (Merit) and 50 students a Certificato di Partecipazione but TWO students were statewide FINALISTS! It gives me great pleasure to announce our winners:

Year 7    Grace Garfi - 4th place

Year 8    Gianluca (Luca) Polimeni - 3rd place

I would like to thank Professoresse Franzoni, Pace and Shllaku for the support they showed their students.

I would also like to wish the Yr 7’s studying Italian this semester all the very best, as they will be participating in the September Competition.

Year 12 Japanese Cultural Cooking Experience

On Tuesday the 19th of July, the Year 12 Japanese class participated in a cultural cooking experience in relation to the topic of Japan’s healthy eating habits.

Our menu consisted of rice balls (おにぎり), miso soup (みそしる), deep fried chicken (からあげ) and sautéed vegetables (れんこんのきんぴら). Not only was it fun to make (and really delicious), it was a wonderful opportunity that allowed us to have an authentic experience of the lifestyle of many Japanese people.

We wish to thank our Japanese Teacher and Language Assistant for organising this event, and the support from the Food Technology for allowing us to use the space to create a lifelong and memorable experience.
