Health and Physical Education Department in 2021

The HPE team are looking forward to working with the students in 2021 and hope the students will gain both personally and academically from our curriculum offerings throughout the year.

Uniform and Sunsmart Policy

Students are expected to wear the correct Physical Education Uniform to and from school on the day they have their PE class, in Term 1 this includes wearing a hat (Sun Protection Policy- Students).  The school provides sunscreen for students to apply at the start of their PE class, however if students have special requirements with sunscreen they will need to provide their own and we expect the students to bring a drink bottle to class to keep themselves hydrated.

In addition to the above we ask that students wear appropriate footwear to safely participate in class.  Slip on sand shoes or casual sneakers don’t usually provide the necessary support for ankles and allow for the grip necessary to participate in class adequately.  If you have any questions or comments about the uniform requirements please feel free to get in contact with your child’s class teacher.

Year 7 Open Water Learning Experience

In the week beginning Monday 8th February, students in year 7 will be involved in Life Saving Victoria’s “Open Water Learning Experience”.  Students will be involved in activities raising awareness about the open water and how to enjoy and be safe in these environments when using them.  Students will need parents permission for this excursion, this can be confirmed on Operoo or if you do not have an account your child will bring home a copy of the permission form to be signed and returned to their PE teacher prior to the excursion.

Year 10 Physical Education

In our endeavour to provide a diverse and engaging curriculum to our year 10’s we have them participate in a range of community sports and physical activities in the local area.  This is to give them ideas as to the activities they can pursue beyond their compulsory physical education classes and ideas on how to be active long into their future.  In term 1 the students will be involved in Lawn Bowls, Ten Pin Bowling and Golf.  Students will need parents permission for these classes and this can be confirmed on Operoo, if you do not have an account your child will bring home a copy of the permission form to be signed and returned to their PE teacher prior to the excursion.  Students involved in Premier League will not be involved in regular PE classes for Term 1 and compete for the school at this time.

Student Photographs

A reminder to all parents that you need to notify the College if you do not give permission for your son or daughter’s photograph to be published in newsletters or promotional materials.  We would like to begin to place more photographs and videos on MyPenola and so I take this opportunity to remind you of the student permission form for photographs.  If we have not received your permission form back at the College we have assumed that your consent has been provided.  It is the responsibility of each family to make this decision and notify the College if you decide to exclude your son or daughter from having their photograph published.  In practical terms, this will mean that your son or daughter will need to be excluded from most group shots such as class photographs as these are published in our Year Book each year.
