Dear parents and carers,
I’m writing to update you regarding the positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test at Penola Catholic College and the recent announcements about the arrangements for term 3.
Firstly, I’d like to thank the entire school community for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
I want to reassure you that we are working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Catholic Education Melbourne (CEM) to ensure we receive the best and most timely advice possible, and that the wellbeing of our students and staff is paramount.
A deep clean of the Broadmeadows campus has been completed over the past 3 days and we are ready to resume onsite learning in line with the arrangements for term 3 outlined below.
DHHS has provided direct and specific advice to any individuals who came into close contact with the person who tested positive about self-isolating and looking after themselves.
I would also encourage any close contact that has not yet done so to get an additional test this week.
Members of the school community not contacted by DHHS have not been identified as close contacts and are able to resume normal activities until advised otherwise by DHHS.
It is important that we all continue to monitor our own and the health of our children daily during this time. If you or your child develops any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath:
- Stay at home and do not attend school
- Seek medical advice (call ahead to alert your doctor about the confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) at the school and any symptoms before visiting, and take this letter along)
- Call the school to let us know.
If you or your child has a health condition or complex health needs, please discuss this with your medical specialist.
Term 3 arrangements
The Victorian Government has also made some significant announcements about the introduction of new measures for schools across metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
These include a change to arrangements for schools at the start of Term 3.
As our school is in an affected area, the government’s new measures apply to us.
Classes will resume for students enrolled in Years 11 and 12 and students in Year 10 enrolled in a VCE or VCAL study, for on-site learning on Monday 13 July 2020.
There will be an extension of school holidays from Monday 13 to Friday 17 July 2020 for all other Year 7 to 10 students. Classes are expected to resume for these students on Monday 20 July 2020.
I know that this may mean uncertainty and another period of dislocation for you and your family. The school is doing everything it can to mitigate the impact of these changes on our community, and to minimise the impact of this disruption on your child’s learning journey.
If there are any changes to the arrangements for the start of Term 3, we will update you.
We are absolutely committed to working with you through these challenging times. The health and safety of everyone in our school community must remain our highest priority. Thank you for your ongoing understanding at this difficult time.
