Last Saturday, we hosted RISE Melbourne 2019,a Festival for the Catholic youth within the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Although we had a wet start to the day, there was an enormous turn out with well in excess of 800, young people in attendance. RISE provided a true festival atmosphere and enabled opportunities for our young people to experience the Arts, live music, prayer, social time, a variety of workshops, Mass and Adoration. Guest speakers included Archbishop Comensoli, Bishop Edwards, Matthew Kennedy (Carlton Football Club), Justine Cumbo, Gary Pinto, Sr Benadette Toohey and Josh Angrisano. Daniel Wells (Collingwood Football Club) was also present and ran a handball competition throughout the afternoon. It truly was an explosion of faith and it was wonderful to see and feel the positivity, enthusiasm and excitement of all the young people towards their faith. It was very evident that the true spirit of the Catholic Church is alive and well in the hearts of our youth.
This year, we are offering the Sacramental Program for any student who has not as yet had the opportunity to complete one or more of the sacraments. The program will involve students attending the preparation program one night per week, after school at the Glenroy Campus over a four – five-week period and attendance at Mass at the Parish of the Good Shepherd in Gladstone Park, where the Sacraments will be received. Please contact Mr Robert Dullard, Deputy Principal – Faith and Mission for further information on 93012777.
Prayers for Lent:
Even though we are in the final few weeks of Lent perhaps the following Prayers for the Table maybe of help and of interest to us all.
Blessing before the Meal
Loving God, during this sacred season of penance we thank you for your many gifts, especially for our trials and sufferings.
The cross of your Son reveals the depth of your love for us. As we come together to share this meal, bless us with that love. Purify the grace we pray so that we may see how everything is a grace. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Blessing after the Meal.
Father of love, the nourishment of this meal fills us with new strength.
May we use that strength to spread the love of Christ to the poor and those in need and to remain always grateful to your Son who laid down his life for us, Jesus is our Lord, now and forever. Amen.
